As we continue the new year we are seeing more and more issues with LED tape light products. LED’s have proven that they have a place in the Lighting Marketplace, however we all need more education on how to use them!! They act very differently than just about any other source we know, In more than one instance, we have been contacted with questions, and issues, with LED lighting applications. We must remember that these little diodes need very specific voltage and power to work properly. The next important item is a heat sink! Something must be there to draw the heat away that is generated by an LED. Whether it be constant current or constant voltage, the right driver must be used for optimal performance. Recently, we have been approached with an interesting issue regarding LED tapelight. After running for 10 minutes to one hour or so, the tape dims. The initial response was to suspect the driver. However, on close inspection of both the driver and the tape itself, we found that the driver was working as designed. After closely checking the tapes, we found that they had the wrong resistors! Many times the customer designs a product and the first articles are perfect. However, constant checking of new product as it is received is essential for quality control and fewer problems in the field. Just because a product has worked well in the past, that doesn’t mean it will always be the same!! As always, we are here for you! We don’t have all of the answers, but we will do our best to help you find answers when you have an issue. Thank you as always for your support of SEBCO!
